Course Style

This course is aimed at delegates who will be responsible for managing an Ingres installation under UNIX, VMS, or NT. It covers all aspects of the Ingres Visual Tool set. The topics for database administration include: managing database objects such as tables, indexes, views; examining Query Execution Plans for enabling table optimization. The topics for installation maintenance include management of disks, locations, and authorising users. Monitoring an installation, including DBMS server analysis, the Ingres logging system, and the Ingres locking system. The course employs lectures and demonstrations, and is heavily weighted towards practicals to enforce the course contents. It focuses on the Visual Tools on NT, but these tools can also be used against a remote Ingres installation.
